Rhino and Stag Beetles of Singapore

Hey guys, today i am goimg to tell you guys about the stag and rhino beetles on the small island of singapore. Not many of you guys know that there are stag beetles in singapore but suprisingly, there are more than 5 types of stags. The ones that i listed below are the ones i seen before.

First is the lesser known resident of the rotten logs, Aegus Chelifer (aegus chelifer)

Chances are if you flip a rotten log,you won't see it,but if you are lucky, you might find one.

Next, the well known invaders of oil palm plantations, the coconut rhinoceros beetle (oryctes rhinoceros)

These beetles are found almost everywhere with bright lights and near coconut trees. One such location is sembawang park.

Next is the bess beetle, the squeaky stag beetle (passalidae sp.)

These are commonly found in and under rotting logs, and if you pick them up,they will screech or as i like to call, squeak.

Last but not least is the well known big rhino beetle, the gideon beetle
(xylotrupes gideon beckeri) *below pictures belong to Nicky Bay @sgmacro

So far,this beetle's  locations are:

Tampines eco green
Sungei buloh wetland reserve
Dairy goat farm

*keep note these are not ALL the beetles that are found in singapore. For references visit Beetle@sg.

Hey guys, welcome to my new blog!
This blog was made because of my interest of beetles.

My interest started just last year when a student at my school showed me a few pictures of some beetles he photographed at Genting Highlands. One beetles caught my interest, a small Cyclommatus Lunifer. When i went to Genting Highlands i found one, Fate i guess :)

I used a lock and lock box to house it. I enjoyed handling it when it wasn't pissed off at me and pinch me...Ouch...

After that,i let it go.

Heres a picture of the Cyclommatus lunifer
